Yoga-for-the-Back

Before I began yoga, I suffered a severe back injury. Throughout over 20 years in yoga both as student and teacher, I have had a keen interest to learn all the variations of traditional yoga exercises and postures that are done with the least possible stress and compression to the spine and have proved to be very effective in strengthening and stretching the appropriate muscles necessary to provide proper support for the back and to alleviate pain.

I have introduced and developed this yoga-for-the-back class over many years, and the students have had such notable results, primarily with lower back issues, that it has become my most popular class.

"Your back yoga sessions have done miracles to my back! Thanks for that. " - P.P.

Yoga-for-the-back allows those who have stiffness, weakness, or occasional back pain to strengthen and lengthen all muscles that are responsible for maintaining a healthy, vital spine while at the same time experiencing the deeply relaxing benefits of yoga.

Most of the exercises are done while lying on the back to minimize compression of the spine. They are also done in a slow, steady rhythm so that one develops a heightened awareness of all the sensations within the body. Between each exercise, time is taken to consciously release all muscular tension.

Due to the gentle and focused nature of this class, it is also beneficial for those who are currently not involved in any active exercise program but wish to start.

"I would recommend this class to everyone, even to people without back problems. Prevention is better than cure." - N.S.
