commençant le Samedi 08 octobre 2016 à 09:30

Ce stage est enseigné en anglais.

Due to her much appreciated workshop last year, Joan returns to deconstruct various postures, breaking them down to their essential points with a focus on alignment to avoid common mistakes, steer clear of injury, promote strength, and increase energy. This workshop is beneficial for all regardless of the style one practices.

All levels welcome!

Day/Time Activity

Saturday

9:30-12:00

Supporting your spine with standing postures

Yoga teaches us how to be strong and flexible and build strength in our legs to support our spine. We learn standing poses early on in our practice as a way to warm up the body and strengthen the muscles of the upper thighs. This helps us feel grounded by connecting us to our base of support. In this workshop, we will break down key standing postures that help strengthen the legs and open the hips, creating space and stability in the lower back, preventing injury and connecting us to our core.  There will be a brief discussion on the surrounding muscles of the spine and low back before moving into a workshop style practice using the wall and props.

Saturday

14:00-16:30

Backbends as a therapeutic practice

Backbends, when done correctly, can be very therapeutic and healing for the spine. In order to move into a more advanced backbend practice, it’s important to strengthen the muscles that support the spine and develop core stability to protect the lower back. Because the lower back and neck are flexible there is a tendency to bend from these curves instead of accessing the upper back. It is important to practice backbends that strengthen the surrounding muscles of the spine and teach us how to coil in the upper back. In this workshop, we’ll work our way through a series of backbends and prep poses learning how to access the thoracic wheel and at the same time create stability in the lower back. When done correctly, backbending unlocks tension in the upper back and shoulders opening up the energy flow along the spine. All levels welcome and learn the benefits of these invigorating poses!

Sunday

9:30-12:00

Unlocking tension in the neck and shoulders with twisting

Due to the flexibility of the neck, it is very common to over use this area especially during twisting postures. This is usually the first part of our body to lock up when we are stressed, in order to protect our vulnerability. Twists and other postures like bridge, shoulderstand, and plough help release tension around the neck and shoulders and, when done correctly with awareness, can unlock deep tension and bring balance to the body. Find out how to use your shoulder girdle in these poses to untangle tension in this area. This will be a workshop style practice working with props and educating the surrounding muscles of the neck and shoulders before twisting. We will close with shoulder stand and learn the importance of using blankets to protect the neck.

Sunday

14:00-16:30

Yin & Hip Release

Yin Yoga teaches us to do nothing and to allow ourselves to just be. In today’s world, we live in over-drive, which stimulates our fight and flight system creating tension in the body and mind from stress and an over active system. In this workshop, we will learn postures to release tension in the hips, creating more content space in the back, while helping to cultivate the relaxation response. This is where healing occurs and thru the quieting practice of yin yoga and restoratives we can look within and let go. We will use props to assist the long holds and there will be a brief discussion of Yin Yoga and Restoratives and the importance of eliciting the relaxation response before practicing.
