Yin Yoga: Spring and the Wood element

Sunday 22 march 15:00 - 17:00

Registration below

Taught in English.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), each season corresponds to a specific element and organ system. The season of Spring is associated with the Wood element and the organs of the Liver and Gallbladder. The wood element in the cycle of the five elements is where energy wants to move as it has been latent throughout the winter, buried deep in the earth. Now, as the trees start to open and bud, we can find more physical energy to start a new project and change the diet or even our lifestyle with simple self-care practices. Sometimes this energetic shift can also stimulate a desire to find more clarity about your direction as we move from the darker, denser season of winter.

Spring is an alive time and if there isn't enough energy for movement or changes, we can feel stagnant. When there is less Liver energy flow due to emotional suppression, stress, or an unhealthy lifestyle, it can lead to irritability, frustration, headaches, digestive discomfort, and even menstrual irregularities. When it's flowing harmoniously, we are more connected to our Heart and can access states of care, imagination and hope when facing struggle, rather than being aggressive or collapsing into apathy.

During this workshop we will explore:

  • breathing techniques;
  • Yin sequence and gentle somatic movement designed to support the Wood and Earth elements and the organs of the Liver and Gallbladder;
  • the acupressure points essential to incorporate into your routine during seasonal transition (reducing symptoms like headaches, digestive discomfort, PMS and stored emotional tension);
  • nutrition and herbal suggestions that can help you align with the season’s energy fostering a sense of ease and clarity.

Join us for this workshop and enjoy the vibrant renewal that spring brings being more relaxed and energized.

This workshop is for everyone - all levels welcome!

Style: Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a modern synthesis of Tao Yin and hatha yoga developed by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. In Yin yoga, floor postures are held for a long duration (3-5 minutes). On a physical level, it helps to increase the suppleness in the joints within our natural range of motion. While staying in the positions, we apply gentle pressure on the joints and relax the muscles around them. This way we affect the deep connective tissues and initiate the natural repair mechanism of the body. Energetically, Yin Yoga helps opening the body’s meridian system. It increases our vitality and harmonizes the energetic activity of the body. Go to the Yin yoga page.
