Balancing Fire: Heart-Centered Yin Yoga for Summer Wellness
Saturday 12 july 15:00 - 17:00
Taught in English.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the summer season is associated with the Fire element and the organs of the Heart and Small Intestine. The Heart is responsible for regulating blood circulation, mind control, and housing Shen (essence of a person’s vitality, consciousness, and emotional well-being). The Small Intestine is responsible for separating the pure from the waste on a physical, emotional, and energy level.
When the Heart energy flow is unbalanced, heat is transferred from the Heart to the Small Intestine carrying the wastes to the Bladder. On the physical level, it can manifest with digestive discomfort, irritable bowel, and urinary disorders. On the emotional level, it can impact our communication abilities, resulting in suppressed emotions and difficulty in forming and maintaining relationships. When the Heart`s energy is flowing harmoniously, it improves emotional well-being, mental clarity, and overall health. We can access a state of enthusiasm, joy, and shared happiness.
Ayurveda describes summer as the season of Pitta, associated with the qualities of Fire and Water elements – heat, oiliness, and moisture accumulation.
Both TCM and Ayurveda teach that summer is a Yang time of awakening the Heart and balancing Pitta, yet also a time to cool the body and nourish our Yin through grounding practices.
Join this workshop if looking for practice that can build your summer elements, restore balance to your Heart energy, and help you enjoy the warmth and brightness that summer brings, being more active and expressive.
We will explore:
- the role of the Fire element and the Heart in overall health;
- Yin sequence designed to support Fire and Water elements, so as the organs of Heart and Small Intestine;
- the acupressure points essential to incorporate into your routine during the summer season (reducing symptoms like irritability, insomnia, skin rashes, inflammation, digestive discomfort, excessive sweating, and palpitations);
- simple Ayurvedic self-care practices that can help you align with the season’s energy.
This workshop is for everyone - all levels welcome!

Style: Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a modern synthesis of Tao Yin and hatha yoga developed by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. In Yin yoga, floor postures are held for a long duration (3-5 minutes). On a physical level, it helps to increase the suppleness in the joints within our natural range of motion. While staying in the positions, we apply gentle pressure on the joints and relax the muscles around them. This way we affect the deep connective tissues and initiate the natural repair mechanism of the body. Energetically, Yin Yoga helps opening the body’s meridian system. It increases our vitality and harmonizes the energetic activity of the body. Go to the Yin yoga page.
