Ashtanga: inner and outer asana journey

starts Monday 19 september 2016 at 15:00

This series of workshops focus on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga through the key principles underlying this method of yoga practice. We will look at the role of traditional vinyasa count, bandha, breath, and drishti in more detail. We will then link these elements together to explore the unity of inner and outer, gross and subtle, in the flow of asanas.

While Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is frequently perceived as physically very challenging, Marija and Ena will help students introduce softness in the practice. They will work on developing the awareness of foundation and the flow of breath in order to help students develop inner stillness, deep presence, and greater awareness of prana throughout the practice.

The workshops are conceived to provide students with the tools to deepen their practice through inner exploration and thus open the space for the development of self-practice. Therefore, it is recommended that students are familiar with at least first half of the Ashtanga primary series or that they have attended at least one term course.

Each workshop builds on the previous one, thus accumulating tools for the practice. However, one may also register for each workshop independently.

Style: Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga vinyasa is a hatha yoga practice transmitted to Pattabhi Jois from the great yoga master Krishnamacharya. It is for students seeking an invigorating approach that purifies, stimulates and energizes. It consists of postures practiced in a fluid rhythm with a concentrated breath, steady gaze, and internal contractions to direct vital energy. Due to the dynamic nature of this practice, one feels completely energized and purified in each cell of the body and also in the mind. Go to the Ashtanga yoga page.
